National DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) Scholarships

All applicants must be citizens of the United States and must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.  DAR chapter sponsorship is not required; however, a chapter or state chairman may work with the applicant to put the information together to send to the DAR Scholarship Committee. 




The National Scholarships may have separate requirements, deadlines and award amounts. Make sure to check the website for more information.

*Delvin L. Hairston Scholarship Award

The student must be a senior with a GPA no less than 2.8. Student must prove to be academically inclined and establish evidence of financial need.

2017 high school graduates who have maintained a 3.2 grade point average and are planning to attend PHCC in the Fall of 2017 to seek an Associate’s degree full- time are encouraged to apply.

The Herbert Lehman Education Fund Scholarship

Graduating high school senior, first year 4-year college student or student transferring into 4-year college who is a U.S. citizen.  Must demonstrate financial need, and record of academic achievement and demonstrated commitment to public service will be taken into consideration

Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and be a resident of various counties and surrounding cities, including Henry County.

*J.T. Minnie Maude Charitable Trust

Must be a graduating high school senior, high school graduate, or have obtained a GED; must be a U.S. citizen and meet residency requirements stated online. Must have at least 2.0 GPA if seeking an undergraduate diploma or certificate, or a 2.5 if seeking an Associate or Bachelor degree.

*URW Community Federal Credit Union Scholarship

Graduating high school seniors planning to enter an accredited college, university, or other institution of higher learning as a full-time student. Applicant must be a member of URW Community FCU for 9 months to be eligible.

*The American Legion Scholarship

Applicant must be a resident of the area and must demonstrate financial need. Must possess a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale and plan to attend a four-year college or university, a vocational technical school or a community college.

*New Heights Foundation Scholarship

Juniors and seniors who are current students at high schools in Martinsville and Henry County may apply. Must have at least a 2.5 GPA, and planning to enroll full time or part time at accredited 2 or 4-year college or technical school in Virginia. Must demonstrate financial need through FAFSA or similar document. Must volunteer for New Heights Academic Camp (more information in binder). Scholarship is targeted to but not limited to students who plan to enter the education field or human services field upon graduation.

*Mayor Edward M. Page Scholarship for Public Service

For a Magna Vista senior with evidence of 60 community service hours and 90 or above grade point average. Must also include 2 letters of recommendation and a resume.  Preference may be given to the Town of Ridgeway residents, but it is not a requirement.

*Laurel Park Community Boosters Scholarship

For high school seniors who are planning on attending college for the first time. The criteria will be based on community service. More information on application.

For graduating male seniors in the region who have at least 2.5 grade point average.

Virginia resident high school or technical school senior or college undergraduate who is pursuing an aviation related career in an accredited institution.

*R.G. Atkins Educational Trust

Graduating seniors residing in Martinsville or Henry county.  Three letters of recommendation required. Applicants will be considered on the basis of character, potential for leadership in school activities, church and community work, academic standing and performance, and potential for future advantageous use of education.

*Martinsville Alumni Chapter, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Scholarship

Graduating high school senior male who has applied to or been accepted to an accredited four-year college/university. Must have at least a 2.75 GPA and rank in the upper third of his class.

*Martinsville UpTown Rotary Club Youth Scholarship

Graduating senior at Martinsville, Bassett, Magna Vista or Carlisle high schools who plans to continue his/her education after graduation.   Strongest consideration will be given to students who have demonstrated through their school and community activities a fostering of the Rotary ideal of “Service Above Self.”

Capital One Virginia Military Dependent Scholarship

For current high school seniors attending a college or university in the upcoming academic year.  Must be Virginia resident, and U.S. citizen or legal resident. Must be dependent of an active duty Servicemember, or Servicemember in the Reserves or National Guard

*Spencer-Penn Alumni Association George W. Burton Scholarship

Must be a graduate or senior eligible for graduation who plans to enroll as a full-time student for the first time in an accredited institution of higher learning in the U.S. Must have attended Spencer-Penn Elementary school for at least one year or be a direct descendant of a student of Spencer-Penn. Must be of good character and a citizen of the United States.

*Tau Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Scholarship

Eligible students must have a grade point average of not less than 2.5.  The financial circumstances of the applicant shall be such that scholarship aid is necessary to continue formal education, and the applicant must be strong in traits which exemplify high moral character as determined by the school administration or guidance counselors.

*Nicodemus Hufford Memorial Arts Scholarship

Graduating high school seniors who are residents of Martinsville or Henry County or attend a school in Martinsville or Henry County who plan to pursue a degree in the visual or performing arts at an accredited 4-year institution.  Applicants are required to attend a personal interview with Piedmont Arts’ Scholarship Committee on Tuesday, May 16th at Piedmont Arts.

Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation: Career & Technical Education

The scholarships are for children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen pursuing a post-secondary education. This scholarship is for students planning to attend a non-degree certificate program or vocational training that is less than 12 months at a community college or private career school listed on College Navigator. The Foundation’s financial needs scholarships are available to every eligible applicant. More eligibility information:
